KWCH -Kansas parents with K students in private schools could receive a significant tax credit if a proposed bill in the state legislature moves forward.
It would also come at a significant expense for the state. Tuesday in Topeka, many supporters showed up to a bill hearing that would provide what the bill calls education opportunity tax credits to Kansas families with K students eligible but not enrolled in public school. Public school advocates speaking against the bill argue that it creates concerns about accountability for public funds, and that public dollars should go to public services.
Those against the bill also point to other states with similar laws concerning voucher programs, where these programs have created budget shortfalls. Copyright KWCH. All rights reserved.
